Ranthambore Tiger

In India the word jungle refers to a drier thorny and often deciduous forest, rather than the lush wet rainforest that most people conjure up from that word. I have been fortunate enough to have had some close encounters with Tigers in India which has inspired many paintings.

This painting shows a male coming out from under a Kadam Tree (Mitregyna parviflora), the leaves of which are throwing shadows across the rear half of the animal. When painting this picture I did not want the Tiger to be looking directly at the viewer but rather give the impression that it has only just noticed you.
